Thailand Extradites MSFJ Co-Founder Y Quynh Bdap to Vietnam Despite International Protests

On November 28, 2025, Thai authorities extradited Y Quynh Bdap, co-founder of Montagnards Stand for Justice, to Vietnam despite his UNHCR refugee status and international appeals. Human Rights Watch condemned the extradition, warning of potential torture and human rights abuses. This follows Vietnam's March 2024 designation of MSFJ as a 'terrorist organization'—a baseless accusation that contradicts the organization's documented peaceful advocacy work.

This follows Vietnam's March 2024 designation of MSFJ as a 'terrorist organization'—a baseless accusation that contradicts the organization's documented peaceful advocacy work. MSFJ has consistently operated through legal channels, submitting hundreds of human rights reports to the United Nations and other international bodies.

The extradition violates international refugee law and human rights principles. Y Quynh Bdap faces grave risks of torture, unfair trial, and prolonged detention in Vietnam, where he has been sentenced in absentia to ten years in prison on fabricated terrorism charges.

We call on the international community to demand Y Quynh Bdap's immediate release and to hold both Thailand and Vietnam accountable for this violation of international law.
